Making a Junk Journal from Scratch

Making a Junk Journal from Scratch
junk journalprocesshandmadevintage

There's something so satisfying about sitting down at my desk surrounded by all my favourite things and just making something. That's exactly what this session was — no plan, just vibes and paper.

Starting with Kraft Paper

I started by cutting down some kraft paper to size, measuring and scoring it on my cutting mat. There's something almost meditative about that part — the repetitive motion, the clean edges. My desk was already dressed in its usual pink heart mat, surrounded by my Strawberry Shortcake collection and all the little trinkets that make the space feel like mine, which honestly makes every craft session feel like a special occasion.

Adding the Details

Once I had my signatures cut, I started layering in the details — butterfly cutouts, floral papers, and a little magnet closure to hold it all together. Laying them all out side by side to admire the spread is genuinely one of my favourite moments in any project — seeing it go from blank paper to something that looks like it was found at an antique market.

Putting It All Together

From there it was all about construction — folding, layering, and assembling the cover. The finished book has this beautiful worn texture, a mix of distressed browns and soft florals, with little pockets starting to take shape inside.

I slipped in some photos toward the end, and that's when it really started feeling like a journal and not just a craft project.

What Comes Next

I don't always know what a book is going to become when I start it. Sometimes that's the whole point. This one is already whispering ideas at me.

More soon. 🤎
